Along the waterline

Looking more carefully

Water gives a landscape its own sense of time. Reflections change with the wind, while the edge of a lake or a river reveals small details with every turn. We collect notes from paths, shorelines and places where a journey slows down.

Travel lightly and stay on established access routes. Keeping a little distance from the busiest viewpoint often creates a better experience for both visitors and the landscape. A map is useful even on a familiar walk.

What to keep in a notebook

For photographs near water, consider the shoreline as carefully as the horizon. Foreground texture and a simple frame can tell more about a place than an uninterrupted view across the surface.
